(More customer reviews)I was very reluctant in buying this product because 1) the price is not cheap and 2) I was not sure whether this would work. I had debated for almost about a year before I decided to try. When woodpecker came for the first time this year, I immediately ordered the device. Since there is 30 day money back guaranty, I thought I should try from this point for about a month. I ordered one main device, an extension speaker and a Bird-X OWL Prowler Owl with Moving Wings for a visual deterrent. While I was waiting to receive this product, woodpeckers visited every day. Sometimes I jumped out of the shower to scare them away. I ordered on Tuesday and got it on Friday. I installed it on Saturday. Speakers were facing towards walls and the prowler owl was mounted at the most frequently visited side of the walls. After installation, I didn't have any visit for about a week. Then, a woodpecker tried on the side where there is no prowler owl. I called the tech support and complained about their coming back. But, it turned out that I should have found a particular kind of the woodpeckers and chosen the sound switch accordingly. Well, I thought, to be effective, I should turn on all switches targeting all kinds of woodpeckers.
The tech guy said that if they hear multiple predators' sound, they wouldn't be scared at all. After talking to him, I chose two sounds of predators of the woodpeckers that I observed visiting and another general predator's sound. (This device has 8 sound settings: 4 different kinds of woodpecker predators and 4 general predators. Each one can be turned on and off. What I did was turning on every single of them) From then on it worked for several weeks without any knocking sound. This is the key: identifying the right woodpecker that is pecking on your house.
I spent around $300, but considering the repair cost on the high walls every year I think it is worth while.
After a long debate, I came to a perfect solution. Since I installed the device facing to my house, it wouldn't disturb my neighbors much. You can set it to work only day time, and I use that setting.
And during the day time most people are at work. So, no disturbance in my case. As in other review, it may be a problem in a crowed city area. But, I'm very happy with this solution.
